About Black Hills Hotels
Your trusted, independent guide to exploring South Dakota's most beautiful region.
Black Hills Hotels is an independent travel guide focused on one region: the Black Hills of South Dakota. We exist to answer the questions that matter when you're actually planning a trip — which town to base in, which hotel is closest to what, when to book around Sturgis, and what each property is really like.
Who We Are
A small editorial team that researches Black Hills lodging full-time. We pull data from public hotel records, Tripadvisor and Booking.com review counts, and the National Park Service. We physically visit properties in Rapid City, Keystone, Hill City, Custer, and Deadwood throughout the season.
How We Work
- Independent: Not owned by any hotel chain or booking platform.
- Affiliate-funded: We earn a commission when you book through partner links — at no cost to you.
- No paid placement: Hotels can't pay to appear or rank higher in our guides.
How We Rank Hotels
Our hotel rankings combine three inputs:
Guest reviews at scale
Aggregate ratings and review counts from Tripadvisor, Booking.com, and Google — weighted toward properties with hundreds of recent reviews.
Distance and access
Real driving distances to Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, the Badlands, and the Rapid City Regional Airport.
Trip fit
We note which hotels suit families, couples, motorcyclists during Sturgis week, and travelers prioritizing park access over chain familiarity.
How We Are Funded
Black Hills Hotels is reader-supported. When you book a hotel through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you. This helps us maintain our website and continue providing free, high-quality travel guides. We thank you for your support!
